Holy Moly!!!

In Little Black Book News, this just in.... In only a few short hours 50 petite obsidian tomes were snapped up by eager alteration enthusiasts leaving a paltry 100 copies remaining.  If you want in on this bona fide hit get into the Art Store this week and register!
In related news here's a shout out to the Carillon, our U of R campus newspaper.  Thanks for a great article and also for pointing out that Angel McDowell is 95 percent more hip than you on any given day.

Remember you only have until November 30 to register.  Completed books are to be returned to the Art Store by February 28th.  Look for a kick ass show in March!

Here We Go Again!

It's that time of year again.  The leaves have fallen and we're all wondering how we are going to get through the next few months of housebound cold.  Well I have a suggestion.  The Little Black Book Project is up and running for its 3rd year!!!  Join in once again for literary abandon, alteration and general book mayhem.

The rules are the same:

Get your blank book at the Art Store, University of Regina, Rm RC022.

In the back of the book you will find a secret theme.

Re-invent your book based on the theme.  Anything goes.  It does NOT have to look like a book at the end of the project.

You have until February 28th to complete your book and return it to the Art Store.

Closing reception will be sometime in March.

Everyone who completes a book will be entered to win a shiny NEW TABLET!

Enter in teams.  Enter alone.   Just enter!   Cost is a mere $10.00.

** if you completed a book last year get a jump on this year's project.  Pick up your book beginning Oct. 23rd.

Crunch Challenge!!

If you have a black book full of  good intentions give yourself the Crunch Challenge to get it done.  Give yourself 2 hours to re-invent your book.  I just got back a submission that is covered in sea glass.  The inside is still a journal but now it's a beautiful journal!  Remember alteration doesn't only apply to the interior.  Take the 2 hour challenge, get your book done.  If you can't do it.  Pass it on to someone else to give it some new life.  Come on guys.  I'm counting on you!!

The Writing's on the Wall

It's February 1st!!  How is your black book coming along?  Not started? Never fear.  The key to the black book experience is to let go of conventional thinking.  Rip it apart, burn it if you have to or just glue it shut and  do the cover.  There is no right or wrong in this project just wild abandon.  Some of you have not only finished but returned your book already.  Good job!  Remember everyone who submits their book by February 15th will be entered to win a prize package of art supply goodies courtesy of the Art Store.  All the completed books are due in the Art Store by February 29th.  They'll be on display for the week of March 12th and we'll close things off March 22 with our reception and silent auction.  Hang in there!!

Perfection and Prizes

I was happy and surprised to see two little black books returned this week!  The thing I love about this project is that no two books are ever even close to being the same.  What I see happening is a perfectly imperfect approach to the project.  And that my friends is what the Little Black Book Project is all about.  It is a license to go crazy with your creative self.
Time is flying by and the books are due back in the Art Store at the end of February.  I know it seems like you'll never get it done and that you have a million other things to do but you can do it!
I think it's time for a little incentive and so... Everyone who returns their LBB before February 15 will be entered to win an ART SUPPLY PRIZE PACKAGE worth $75.00!!!  Also, don't forget that EVERYONE who returns their completed book gets a free hand printed Little Black Book Project 2012 T-shirt.   So keep those little books coming and I'll talk to you soon!

The best of times, the worst of times....

Happy New Year!! It's 2012 and all is well!... at least for the time being. Dun, dun, duuuunnnnnn. (insert menacing music here).  Does anyone know when exactly it is that everything is supposed to go horribly wrong?  Because I want to make sure I enjoy the night before.

Honestly I feel pretty darn positive about the coming year.  It is new after all, as shiny and bright as an off the lot sportscar.  There are no miles on it, no dents and it doesn't smell like a fast food restaurant.  So in light of this positive outlook on life I decided to start my Little Black Book.  Is it possible to have Little Black Book block?  I had a bad case of it in the beginning but now my tiny tome noir is taking itself over and I am actually almost finished.  No pressure.  My point is don't stress.  Go with whatever avenue your book decides to wander down.  Just make sure to check in with it now and then or it could desert (dessert?  I can never remember that one) you completely.  Black books are fickle that way.  But keep on going back to it and eventually it will open up to you.  When you see your efforts displayed along with all the other books you will be very happy that you stuck with it.  Trust me.  On that note, go forth and alter!
